There is now a great deal of evidence that early exposure to music is likely to lead your toddler to many long-term benefits:


• Higher scores on tests of visual spatial reasoning - a skill required for many tasks, including mathematics.
• Increased brain response to musical tunes - the amount of response was directly related to the age at which a musician began training. The earlier training began, the more response.
• Increased efficiency in the way the two hemispheres of the brain communicate. Musicians who began their training in childhood were shown to have a longer corpus callosum (a structure connecting the two hemispheres of the brain) than non-musicians.
• Improved reading scores - active engagement with music (such as singing) and early forms of music training can help toddlers fine-tune their ability to differentiate the sounds of language, which has been shown to be a necessary skill in both language and reading acquisition.
• Enhanced effects on gross and fine motor skills.
• Enhanced listening skills - children exposed to ample amounts of music were better able to concentrate for longer periods of time without interrupting the group.
